How To Get Rid Of Razor Bumps


Cure From Razor Bumps With Home Remedies 

Razor bumps, also called pseudo folliculitis barbae, are small, red, white brown or yellow irritated painful bumps on the skin. Razor bumps develop after shaving, when filaments of hair curl back on themselves and grow into the skin. These are cause of irritation, pimples and also scarring.

Razor bumps usually develop on the neck, but they can occur in any area that is shaved (such as the underarms, cheeks, pubic area, and legs and arms. Sometimes it also called razor burn.

Causes of razor bumps

Shaving is one of the causes for razor bumps and ingrown hairs because it “sharpens” the free hair end, facilitating its competency to pierce back into the skin resulting in redness, irritation, and swelling. But razor bumps and ingrown hairs very often result from other hair removal methods such as waxing, electrolysis and laser hair removal. Razor bumps are common among African Americans and people with tightly coiled hair.

Home remedies for razor bumps

There are several home remedies that are easily available in your home. These will help to remove razor bumps and feel smooth clean shave skin. 

  • Lemon juice

 lemon juice is a good home remedy for razor bumps. Squeeze lemon juice into a cup and dip a cotton ball into the juice and apply it over your irritated skin. Let the juice dry for few minutes and then wash it off with warm water. You can do this every time when you shave. 

  • Cucumber and milk mask

 mix ½ cup of pureed cucumber with ¼ cup of milk and then letting it cool in your refrigerator and then you would apply this to your razor bumps for 10-to-20 minutes and wash it off.
  • Aloe Vera Gel

 Aloe vera gel has many skin-healing qualities. Take an aloe vera leaf and cut down the center of the leaf and allow the yellow gel to drain out. Now take a portion of the gel and wash it under cool water. Apply it on your razor bumps and let it dry for 15 minutes after that wash it with warm water.
  • Aspirin

 Take 4 to 5 uncoated aspirins and crush it properly and mix with warm water to form a runny, paste-like mixture. Gently tub the paste on your newly shaved portion and let it dry for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse it off with warm water.
  • Strawberry with sour cream mask

 Mash 2 to 4 strawberries and mix this mixture with one spoon of sour cream. Apply this mixture as soon as possible after shaving and leave on for 10 minutes. You can try this twice a week for fresh and soft skin.

  • Prevention for razor bumps

Prevention is the best cure for razor bumps. You can manage your razor bumps by following these tips.

  • Always use clean hygienic razor for shaving
  • Take a hot shower before shaving or clean your face with warm water. It will help to soften the hair and open the pores. Before using razor apply shaving cream and let it be on your skin for a few minutes.
  • If you easily get razor bumps after every shave that means you need to take at least 2 to 3 days off in between shaving to allow your current razor bumps to heal and go away.
  • You can use electric shaver instead of regular razors to prevent you from getting razor bumps.
  • Before shaving, clean your shaving razor with rubbing alcohol.
  • Avoid using fancy 2-3 blades razor that can snap your hair back into place. Always use single-blade razors.
  • Don’t use blunt or old razor that can irritate your skin. Change your razor blade at least once every week.
  • Stop rubbing your skin or don’t pick at or try to pop your razor bumps as if they were pimples because this will make your razor bumps look worse.
  • Wash your razor after every stroke
  • Wash properly your face with cold or warm water after shaving.
  • Use soft moisturizing cream or lotion after shave that will help to reduce razor burn.
  • Dip your razor after final wash.
  • Always use good antibacterial shaving gel or cream, don’t use ordinary soap.
