What Causes Stye And What Is Prevention With Home Remedies
A stye
(sometimes spelled stye) is a small, painful lump located at the base of
an eyelash or on the inside or outside of the eyelid. Stye is actually
abscess filled with pus and usually caused by a staphylococcus aureus
bacterium. Hordeolum is a medical term for a sty or stye.
Types of stye
An
external stye is the infection of the sebaceous glands of zeis at the
base of eyelashes. It starts as a small spot and turn into red painful
swelling that usually last several days before it burst and then heals
this type of styes are short lived and self limiting.
An
internal stye is the infection of outer side or inner side of the
eyelid. It also seems like an external stye, and may disappear
completely once the infection is past or it may leave a small
fluid-filled cyst that may have to be opened and drained.
What are signs and symptoms of styes
There are some signs and symptoms of a stye include:
- A red lump on the top or bottom eyelid that is similar to a pimple
- Redness and burning in the eyes
- Pain in your eyelids
- Blurred eyesight and restlessness during blinking
- Excessive tearing and mucous secretion from your eyes
- Eyelid swelling
What are the causes of stye
Stye is
usually caused by staphylococcal bacteria that is often live right on
the skin surface. It can develop after blockage of oil glands at the
base of the eyelash, and lack of hygiene. It is the right condition for
spreading bacteria on the dead cells and other debris, resulting in the
painful stye. Staphylococcal bacteria are responsible for 90%-95% of
cases of stye. Poor nutrition, sleep deprivation, lack of water, and
rubbing of the eyes can be other causes of stye.
Sometimes
it will disappear itself, you can help encourage the healing process and
relieve pain and irritation at home. There are some prevention and home
remedies to get rid of a stye. If the swelling does not subside within a
few weeks then ask your doctor for the treatment.
How to get rid of stye by home remedies
- Take a handful of fresh parsley and add a cup of boiling water in a soup bowl and keep it for 10 minutes. Now dip a clean cloth in this parsley water and soak it properly and put it on your closed lids for 15 minutes. It is an effective way to decrease puffiness of the eyes.
- On the infected closed eye, keep a moist regular tea bag and bandage it on that place and leave it overnight. A Next day may in morning hopefully eye would be free from the painful stye.
- Taking antibacterial dandelion tea on regular basis is helpful for your body to get rid of all the stye causing bacteria.
- You can also attempt rubbing your gold ring three times on the affected area.
- Take two cups of water also add one teaspoon of turmeric into it then boil it till it decrease to half. Cool it and with the help of a best muslin cloth strain it 8-10 times. This solvent can be use as eye drops 8-10 times in a day this will reduce your problem to a high extent.
- Rub a clove in water and apply it on the stye, this will help a lot in this problem.
- You can use a grated potato in the form of poultice to reduce the swelling of the inflamed eyes.
Prevention tips for Stye
- Never touch your infected eye with your hand as hands contain many germs.
- Do not try to burst the stye as the infection may spread from one eye to the other.
- It requires a high level of hygiene as the eye stye is highly contagious.
- Never share body towel, towels or eye make-up with any other person.
- It is advisable to keep good hygiene while inserting or removing your contact lenses.
